First release of the "Cellular Microscopy Phenotype Ontology" (CMPO)

CMPO is a species neutral ontology for describing general phenotypic observations relating to the whole cell, cellular components, cellular processes and cell population level phenotypes. CMPO draws on previous efforts in this area, such as the CPO, to build a focused application ontology for the cellular microscopy domain. CMPO leverages existing ontologies such as the Gene Ontology and the Phenotypic Trait Ontology

(PATO) to build logical definitions for phenotypes that can be used in automated reasoning over phenotype descriptions. This approach ensures that the ontology is compatible with related efforts, such as FYPO, APO and MP, and will allows for future cross species integration of phenotypic data.
